Meet the designer
Hi! I’m Cat.
I’m an industrial designer, researcher, and educator living in Cincinnati, OH, where I lead the Industrial Design & Human Factors practice at Mammotome, a leader in breast care diagnostics & surgical solutions. I also teach Industrial Design at the University of Cincinnati college of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. I have 8+ years of experience designing intuitive and innovative solutions centering usability for clients in med-tech, robotics, and consumer goods.
I have served on IDSA’s Board of Directors since 2021, where I work to guide the overall direction, decision-making, compliance, policy setting, and accountability for the organization in fulfillment of its mission. I was the Chair of the IDSA Conferences Committee from 2021-2024, hosting the International Design Conference and overseeing IDSA’s national portfolio of events. I have also had the opportunity to collaborate with organizations like the World Design Organization, Advanced Design, and Unif-ID on a variety of other events.
In 2019, I co-founded Design Allyship with fellow designer and advocate Ti Chang, to provide designers with actionable resources to improve the condition of historically marginalized designers in the industrial and product design industry. This organization provides spaces dedicated to dialogue and discourse about the lived experiences of people of different backgrounds, and tools to enable allyship for all who wish to better the community.
I also volunteer as a mentor in both formal and informal settings, including in Advanced Design's Offsite mentorship program, Unif-ID, and Startup Weekend. I’m a vocal advocate for equitable and accessible design, and embody my values by volunteering with undergraduate design programs including: University of Cincinnati, Pratt Institute, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Columbus College of Art and Design, the Ohio State University, the Cleveland Institute of Art, Brown University, and the University of Minnesota to critique and mentor students and share insight into practice.
I hold a BS in Industrial Design with a minor in Art History from The Ohio State University. When I’m not designing, you can find me building tiny house kits or cooking with my partner, Atticus.
